Parents
We believe that Parents (and guardians) are an integral part of a young musician’s development, whether or not those parents are musicians. Because of this,
- Parents are welcome to attend At First Sight with their student, at no charge.
- Students age 8 and under must have a parent or guardian available to them.
- Some classes, such as Dalcroze Eurythmics, may request the parents not be in the classroom for space reasons.
- We expect parents to attend the Orientation meeting on Monday at 2:30.
- Every afternoon of AFS includes Parents’ Circle, where parents and AFS faculty talk about raising musical kids.
- Descant, seminars and performancs are all open to parents.
- Parents and observers can purchase meal tickets to eat with the students and faculty.
OverSight (parents' orchestra)
AFS welcomes parents who play! Whether you began lessons when your children did, or are a seasoned professional, there’s no need to sit on the sidelines when you could be playing, too! There is no extra charge, and ANY parent who plays a string instrument is welcome to join Oversight. Please don’t feel you have to be “really good” to play. We want to include parents who started taking music lessons with your kids, as well as those of you who have played for years.
Parents who play strings have their own orchestra, called OverSight!
- Any string-playing parent is welcome, no matter whether you have played since you were a child, or if you just began recently.
- There is no fee or tuition to be in the OverSight orchestra.
- Oversight rehearses twice daily.
- Mrs. Tami King (the InSight director) is also the overSight director.
- OverSight has the opportunity to perform on Friday afternoon, with the other large ensembles.
- The goal? To enjoy making music together!
Playing parents can join HausMusik reading sessions in the evenings, too!
Playing parents may also be interested in Chamber Music Weekend, the week previous to At First Sight.
There’s a place in the online application for you to sign up for OverSight. Hope to see you there!
