A Prima Vista

A Prima Vista is open to a select few college-age students who have a wealth of previous musical background, and are interested in both sharing it and learning more, through their experience at AFS.  Vistas as they are affectionatlly known, demonstrate the bridge between being an AFS student and becoming a “musicianary”–sharing that musical joy to others behind them on the journey.

Preference is given to students who have attended AFS in the past. Students need not be majoring in music. A Prima Vista is a work-study program. The tuition is reduced by 50% in exchange for labor, giving Vistas a valuable look at the behind-the-scenes organization of running an event such as AFS.

Vistas
share the same orchestra as At First Sight (advanced), and have their own chamber ensembles with both coaching and rehearsal times. The rest of the time, they give back to AFS as sight-reading guides for the younger students, and assistants to the faculty and directors. They may also work as equipment managers, hospitality assistants, or registration ambassadors.

Students above age 18 who are not interested in serving as a Vista are encouraged to register for Chamber Music Weekend.

Cost for A Prima Vista
is $250 tuition, $50 application fee. The OutLook Scholarship does not apply to Vistas, but there is need-based assistance available.
Instructions are on the application form.  Please use the link on this page to go directly to the A Prima Vista application. Contact the AFS director if you have questions or need assistance.
